ABOUT
A PATH TO MANHOOD

A Path to Manhood

A Path to Manhood is a faith-based journey designed to help fathers and mentors walk intentionally alongside boys as they grow into godly men. It is built on a simple but powerful belief: the transition from boyhood to manhood doesn’t happen by accident—it happens through relationship, guidance, and affirmation.

In today’s world, many young men reach adulthood without a clear understanding of what it means to live with character, courage, and faith. Cultural noise is loud, role models are often inconsistent, and meaningful rites of passage are rare. A Path to Manhood exists to change that.

A Path to Manhood is a faith-based father–son discipleship journey designed to help guide boys into biblical manhood through intentional relationships, mentorship, and shared experiences.

Built around 10 core characteristics of a godly man, the program equips fathers, mentors, and young men with a practical framework for developing identity, responsibility, courage, integrity, humility, and faith. Through Scripture, conversation, real-life example, and meaningful milestones, young men are encouraged and affirmed as they grow into the men God created them to be.

More than just a book, A Path to Manhood is a shared journey. Fathers, grandfathers, pastors, coaches, and mentors walk alongside the next generation, helping young men discover purpose, build character, and understand what it truly means to live as a godly man.

What Others are Saying

01

"I recently read A Path To Manhood, once I started, I could not put it down! As a pastor for over 30 years, I have always been on the lookout for resources that genuinely help people grow in their faith, deepen their marriage relationships and strengthen their families. At last, a biblically based, practical book to help fathers lead their sons into manhood. As a father, teacher and mentor, Grant masterfully blends his experience with the wisdom of scripture and practical examples, creating a step-by-step pathway to manhood. I can’t wait to see this book in the hands of every father who wants to shepherd his son into godly manhood!"

"I've just finished reading A Path to Manhood, and I wanted to tell you how deeply I enjoyed it. Grant has created something truly meaningful. The way he names and restores that “missing gap” so many boys experience as they move from boyhood into manhood felt both timely and timeless. His emphasis on ceremony, guidance, and the lived qualities of a mature, grounded man was powerful and beautifully expressed."

"Congratulations! It's a wonderful, hands-on guide of what it takes to be a spiritual man. Your 10 attributes resonate deeply and provide profound direction to any young, impressionable man tempted to take a cue from our current culture.  I found the final Ceremony of Manhood particularly powerful. A Rite of Passage virtually non existent these days. Great work"

FAQs

What is A Path to Manhood?

A Path to Manhood is a one-year, faith-based discipleship journey designed for fathers (or trusted male mentors) to walk intentionally with their sons as they grow toward biblical manhood. The program combines Scripture, relational mentoring, and meaningful ceremony to clearly define and affirm godly character.

Who is this program designed for?

The program is typically used with boys ages 11–15, though churches may adjust based on maturity. It is designed for: Fathers and sons; Grandfathers and grandsons; Step-fathers, uncles, or trusted male mentors. The most important requirement is a consistent, caring male presence, not a perfect family structure.

Does this replace existing youth or children’s ministry?

No. A Path to Manhood is designed to complement youth and children’s ministry—not replace it. It strengthens discipleship by reinforcing biblical teaching at home, deepening father–son relationships, and providing intentional mentorship alongside church programming.

What makes this program different from other curricula?

This program is distinct in several ways: It is relational, not lecture-based. It empowers fathers and mentors rather than relying solely on staff. It includes symbolic ceremony, which reinforces identity and responsibility. It is slow, intentional, and formative, not rushed. It is designed to shape character, not simply transfer information.

How long does the program last?

The recommended duration is 10–12 months, focusing on one characteristic of godly manhood each month. Churches may adapt the pace if needed, but the year-long structure allows time for growth, reflection, and lived experience.

What commitment is required from fathers or mentors?

Fathers or mentors are encouraged to read one chapter per month, have 1–2 intentional conversations monthly, and observe and affirm growth before placing each badge. The time commitment is modest but meaningful, designed to fit into real life.

What role does the church play?

Churches provide vision and encouragement, optional group gatherings or check-ins, pastoral or leadership support, and a shared final ceremony (optional but encouraged). The church does not need to manage weekly meetings or heavy logistics.

What are the badges and lanyards used for?

The badges and lanyard (or tie) are symbolic tools, not rewards. Each badge represents a core characteristic of godly manhood. As each characteristic is taught and demonstrated, the father ceremonially transfers the badge to his son. This visual process reinforces growth, affirmation, and responsibility.

Is this program appropriate for boys without a present father?

Yes. Churches are encouraged to help identify trusted male mentors—such as grandfathers, uncles, coaches, or church leaders—to walk with boys who do not have an active father in their life. The program is intentionally inclusive while still honoring the biblical role of male mentorship.

Does this program work in a group setting?

Yes. A Path to Manhood works well in small cohorts, men’s ministry initiatives, father–son retreats, and church-wide rites of passage. Group gatherings can be used for encouragement and teaching, while the primary discipleship happens one-on-one.

Is there a final ceremony?

Yes. The program culminates in a Final Ceremony of Manhood, where fathers publicly affirm their sons and offer a spoken blessing. Churches may host a shared ceremony or allow families to conduct their own. The ceremony is one of the most impactful elements of the program.

What theological framework does the program follow?

A Path to Manhood is firmly rooted in biblical authority, Christ-centered discipleship, character formation, and servant leadership. It is designed to be broadly evangelical and adaptable across denominations.

How can our church get started?

Churches typically begin by casting vision with leadership, identifying participating families, hosting an orientation meeting, providing materials (book, badges, lanyards), and setting a start date. Support materials and leader guidance are included.

What fruit should churches expect to see?

Churches using A Path to Manhood often report stronger father–son relationships, increased spiritual conversations at home, greater confidence and clarity among young men, clearer pathways for male discipleship, and meaningful, memorable rites of passage.

Is this a one-time program or repeatable?

This program is fully repeatable and designed to become part of a church’s discipleship rhythm. Many churches plan to offer it annually or every few years as boys reach the appropriate age.
